Nursery Tech 2 – 3

General Position Summary
The Nursery Technician is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day procedures that ensure the successful cultivation of cannabis plants. This position will be responsible for following ALL Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as they relate to various aspects of our cultivation and maintaining compliance within our facility at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all SOPs, verbal directives, training information and policies when performing duties
  • Reports to the Nursery Lead for daily tasks
  • Perform all tasks in the nursery
  • Nursery Technicians will be required to learn how different cultivars/strains grow, and how to identify a variety of pests/pathogens
  • Assist in transplanting rooted clones into coco
  • Assist in installing and maintaining shade cloth for plant training
  • Assist in topping and pruning vegetative plants
  • Preparing grow media for clones and/or transplants
  • Mixing and applying biostimulants/pesticides via foliar sprays and drenches
  • Releases beneficial/predatory insectsWorking at a fast pace under warm and humid conditions – vegetative rooms average 82+ degrees and 65% relative humidity
  • Cleaning tables, mopping floors, and filling footbaths with sanitation solution
  • Affixing METRC tags to plant lots and individual plants
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations converting various units of measurements
  • Escalate issues to appropriate channels using clear written/verbal communication
  • Mother plant maintenance, cloning, transplanting, nutrients and pH management, water management, positive airflow, temperature and humidity control, pest and disease control, IPM program implementation, plant transfer from veg to flowering.
  • Cataloging and maintaining organization of plants, tags, and pruning biomass
  • Maintain and follow the cultivation department policies and procedures.
  • Wash and sanitize all equipment. Scout all equipment, ensuring all tools are free of pests, viruses or disease.
  • Must be able to adapt to various strains, styles and types of cannabis being propagated; adjusting techniques to maintain a steady pace and quality.
  • Irrigating by hand according to plants size and needs
  • Following strict biosecurity protocols, maintaining sanitation of tools and person
  • Scouting for and reporting any pests and pathogens (powdery mildew, botrytis)
  • Any other task assigned by the Nursery Lead or Director of Cultivation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, with the use of a smartphone
  • May require working rotating shifts with varied hours/day, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events
  • Adhere to company mission statement, while maintaining high ethical standards and, professionalism
  • Must work well with others and ability to adapt quickly to changes in policy, procedure, methods and technique
  • Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to perform carrying, grasping, lifting, walking, standing, use of ladder, use of power tools, some bending/crouching, stooping, stretching, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time while maintaining focus, and have the ability to walk on uneven terrain
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work on catwalks 20 ft above ground floor.
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace under warm cultivation lights – flowering rooms average 82+ degrees
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and balance up to 75 lbs. (125 lbs. with assistance) and must be able to do so with extreme care and caution when working with plants and products
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as company issued face coverings, coveralls, gloves, hair/beard nets, as needed, as this position may be exposed to splash hazards, high temperatures, high humidity, and chemicals
  • Must not be allergic to or have a fear of insects
  • Must be able to work on an environment with moderate to loud noise level

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles
  • The employee regularly works in high, precarious places
  • The employee works under warm cultivation lights – flowering rooms average 82+ degrees
  • The employee works on 3 grow levels exceeding 20 ft above ground floor

Compensation
$15 – $18 an hour
