General Position Summary
The Director of Processing is responsible for the plants once they have been removed from the cultivation area. In this role, the Director of Processing ensures that finished cannabis flower is trimmed, dried and cured to company specifications prior to being released for sale or sent to the extraction department for further processing. They work closely with the Director of Cultivation to coordinate harvest dates and guarantee the availability of space and people to process the plant material. Leading a team of 40 people spanning across bucking and trimming departments and will oversee the operation and maintenance of trim machines, as well as bulk packaging and labeling to ensure that dry flower is stored in a manner that won’t negatively affect quality. The Director of Processing will interact with various department leaders including cultivation, sales, procurement, and Metrc, while reporting daily numbers and quality data to the executive team. They will lead continuous improvement efforts in company operations and the overall quality of our products.
Responsibilities
- Lead and provide daily oversight for a team of 40 employees across 2 departments, fostering a positive work environment and ensuring adherence to organizational culture, SOPs, and machine use for optimal performance and employee satisfaction.
- Direct day-to-day operations, address operational issues, and actively participate in the development and implementation of rules, regulations, department policies, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of internal processes, driving their continuous improvement to enhance efficiencies and streamline post-harvest operations.
- Manage and coordinate post-harvest operations including bucking, curing, sorting, and processing, overseeing daily activities, supply requests, equipment requirements, training and development, schedules, personnel, and quality assurance.
- Maintain meticulous inventory oversight, management, and organization to ensure accurate tracking and prevent discrepancies.
- Ensure the highest product quality standards by supervising and maintaining product integrity during the bucking, sorting, processing, and curing stages.
- Implement and oversee accurate tracking logs for all harvested, processed, and packaged products, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Possess expertise in curing and drying methods, maintaining optimal humidity and temperature levels during various stages of production.
- Efficiently manage the labor force in the bucking and processing departments to meet production goals and quality standards.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed to assist in training, maintaining quality standards, and achieving production goals.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, personnel law, safety regulations, municipal codes, and organizational rules, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.
- Drive departmental innovation and evolution by recommending and implementing new policies, procedures, and concepts to enhance productivity and cost-efficiency.
- Review and optimize processes and product flow while maintaining quality oversight.
- Create and manage comprehensive reports, tracking data, and analysis of all post-harvest products on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Foster a proactive and positive work environment that motivates processing employees to meet and exceed production and quality goals.
- Demonstrate expertise in all areas related to post-harvest processing of cannabis, including harvesting, bucking, curing, and trimming.
- Utilize problem-solving skills to analyze issues, identify alternative solutions, project consequences, and implement recommendations.
- Stay updated on new methods, compliance updates, and techniques for operational improvement through research, evaluation, and adaptation.
- Possess a thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning the cannabis industry, personnel law, safety regulations, municipal codes, and organizational rules, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, upper management, and governmental agencies.
- Assist the cultivation department with drying processes to maintain schedules and production goals while gaining knowledge
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 3-5 plus years of prior people management experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years in operations management and/or building/facilities management.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality assurance, compliance, or quality control.
- Proficiency in using standard office equipment, computer equipment, and software.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
- Proficient in facilities systems and protocols.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with various audiences, including supervisors, upper management, and regulatory agencies.
- Familiarity with automation equipment used in processing, packaging, labeling, and cannabis-related post-harvest and trimming processes.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including MS Outlook and Excel or Google equivalent.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to create a positive work environment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
- Demonstrates integrity, dedication, and a positive work attitude.
- Experience with METRC system.
Physical Requirements:
- Perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Stand for extended periods, up to 8 hours a day.
- Frequently stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat and kneel/crawl.
- Comfortable operating and troubleshooting large processing equipment.
- Able to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position provides direct supervision of all employees in the post-harvest department including Trimming, Bucking, Dry-Cure, and Finished Goods.

- Ability to calculate figures and percentages, and proficient in using Microsoft Excel or Google equivalent to support operational reports and quarterly reviews.

Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles

Compensation
- $26-$30 an hour
